ASSOCIATE LAWYER POSITION

 We are a fast growing, long established, small law firm located above the Provincial Court/Supreme Court (Family Division) in Shubenacadie, Hants County. The East Hants Corridor is centrally located between Halifax and Truro. We service clientele from around the province in the areas of real estate transactions, family, estates, criminal, corporate, civil and estate planning. We are looking to hire an associate who wants to build a practice in East Hants and is interested in a long-term career. We are open to discuss your choice of practice areas. We pay for continuing legal education and practice insurance. We have a great deal of knowledgeable and friendly support staff, with 4 lawyers and 11 support staff.  Responsibilities (depending on the practice areas chosen):

Drafting agreements, documents, briefs

Meeting with, and providing advice to, clients

Negotiating with opposing counsel

Attending court conferences and hearings, settlement conferences, discoveries

Managing client files

 Work Hours & Benefits:

Permanent full-time position

Monday to Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm, with additional hours as may be required from time to time.

Vacation starts at 3 weeks and increases with the length of employment.

We recognize all statutory holidays and our office is closed between Christmas and New Year’s.

All staff get their birthday (or next business day) off.

Starting salary: $75,000 - $90,000 per year with annual reviews, raises and Christmas bonus. Salary can be discussed if applicant has extensive experience.

 Qualifications:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Working knowledge of laws, regulations and best practices in the field.

Excellent persuasive writing skills.

High level of integrity.

Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.

Ability to prioritize and meet multiple and competing deadlines.

Experience in litigation.

Well organized and excellent time management skills.

Requirements:

Member in good standing of the Nova Scotia Barristers Society.

A minimum of 3 years' experience practising law is preferred but not required.
